Nicole: «During my process in life and as an artist, I had a lot of ups and downs. Art became a way of processing my emotions and finding a language to understand what I felt. Experimenting with different techniques helped me to understand the need of using very immediate materials, where the result was quick. This immediate quality of the medium and tools create a bridge between the movement and the artwork itself. I play with the elements of time and space removing the gap between the fluctuations of the mind and the sensory world. Therefore it becomes a physical act. »
«In this expression there is no boundary between the act and the canvas. Funny thing is that I was never able to draw between the lines. I remember having sent in a coloring page for a competition, where I had gone beyond the lines and created a fantasy myself. In this visual expression an answer gets released, where words fail to communicate. As a child I would point out the things I was seeing instead of telling you about it. My mother would keep me quiet with some chalks for hours, while dressing up and dancing turned me to complete opposite energy.»
«Eventually it became clear to me I was combining these two qualities and my interest of vivid and complementary colors. I do not like it when people put me in the spotlights, but when I put myself in the spotlights there is no problem at all. These colors definitely express the importance to be seen. In a way I am freeing myself from all the built up layers and showing what is underneath my skin. Now that I am moving forward as an artist I am expanding my horizons in terms of material and the use of space. It is important to take care of ourselves and the planet, that is why I am looking into new and healthier materials that will maintain the same speed and directness. I also aspire to make work in bigger surroundings and hopefully inspiring others by showing the importance of expressing our entities»
