So; What’s up for February?
This February we have again a nice variety of artists lined up for you. What’s remarkable though, is that 3 weeks in a row, we have external hostings going on. I thought this is the perfect time and format to highlight these organisations that host their evenings in our venue. Of course we still have a few of our own evening lined up as well, starting off with:
February the 2nd with Malibu Athletic Club and Beumer. The three hyper enthusiastic guys from Malibu Athletic Club are really people that I hold close to my heart. As three UK expats who moved here a few years ago separately, they quickly teamed up to create Malibu Athletic Club, they needed to have an outlet for all their creativity and energy, oozing out one message in general: let’s have fun in life. They play a wide variety of eclectic sounds, but mainly focussed on extremely booty-shaking disco and some afro influences. They are topped off by Beumer, who has become a trusted hallmark for quality sounds in Canvas. All in all a perfect way to start February. Check Malibu’s very special promo mix below:
The night after Attek and ENKA are up. So, this is a bit a special combination of two Canvas regulars. Attek who plays his smooth, grooving house sounds with strong french influences. And ENKA who I believe is a DJ mastermind. Known for his absolutely booming techno during his Red Light Radio shows, but when he plays Canvas he is one of the best crowd-readers I know. Always looking to see how he can maximize the dancefloor with cheeky and unknown tracks. It’s going to be interesting to see them challenge each other.
The 9th SHMLSS and Cosmic Sans are up. SHMLSS has been on my watchlist for some time now. I think it was somewhere end of 2016 when they released the track ‘SHMLSS ‘Stand (Acid Edit)’. This track for me cemented them as a super solid act. They take you along for the ride, while blending and bending genres all the time. Letting each their tracks evolve into something special, looking forward!
On the saturday of this weekend it’s time for Koffie Verkeerd, our first external organisation for February. Koffie Verkeerd is the sister-evening to their Zwarte Koffie night in Paradiso. During Koffie Verkeerd, the main focus is all about disco and hits. The team of residents they bring along all have years of experience on how to manipulate the dancefloor. No maintenance needed here, they truly know the drill.
Best Kool, on the 16th, are a rowdy bunch of guys with a strong desire to do things differently than the rest of the evenings in Canvas. With a podium in the middle of the dancefloor, DJ booth at the side, live band playing and a preference for soul, boogie & rock’n roll from the 50/60’s you can say that during these evenings Canvas looks and feels very different. If you have special dancing shoes, this is the night to wear them, because you’re going to get moving for sure.

The 17th is a collaboration with We Are E, the booking & mgmt agency for a huge roster, which I’ve been booking a few artists every now and again. They were looking for a venue to showcase Lövestad, and as soon as I heard this, I jumped a bit. I have keen memories of Lövestad during Losjes in 2016. As some of you might know, I love a good sit-down every now and again, and if I get the chance I’ll try to get everybody in on it. With a lot of eye-winking, hand-pointing and Lövestads ability to transform their sets on the spot (they do play live after all), we got 400 people to do a sit-down and they created one of the biggest drops I heard in a long time. There is video evidence of this somewhere online, but I can’t seem to find it [*ahem*]. Anyways, this is a night that’s going to explode with energy, proud to have the boys on board. Support is being taken care of by Filament Deejays.
More Bounce, the future funk phenomena in Amsterdam have their bi-monthly event on the 23rd. This time they take it back to the foundation of where it all started. The four main guys funkin’ it up. There aren’t many organisations that are so deep into one specific sound as More Bounce. Looking forward to this one! (Check out their new artwork, it’s super nice if I say so myself).

The 24th we have a Dutch-debut, exciting stuff! As many times before, Midnight City brings a new artist to The Netherlands for the first time. This time they bring Bobby Analog along for a midnight of madness. Midnight City truly has a keen ear and is really on the forefront in their sound. With debuts for the likes of LNTG, Max Graeff and Art of Tones as proof, the debut of Bobby Analog is bound to be special. Check out his latest EP on the Body Fusion imprint below.
Well that concludes this month, all in all a month filled to the brim with musical talent – a good mix between established artists, locals, internationals, debuts and returning people, looking forward to share the dancefloor with everybody for another great month. As always:
