Broedplaats VKG
In the back wing of Volkshotel, you can find Broedplaats VKG. This cultural hub is not only a true experimental playground for local talent, but als the workspace of notable creative minds and talent, including movie, animation and documentary makers. A selection of their repertoire is displayed in the hotel.
Cineville
Cineville is the biggest film club in the Netherlands, which shows the country that the world of cinema is an endlessly rich and fabulous place. A place that is hilarious as well as bloody serious, cruel and sweet, and ranges from wonderfully superficial to brain-teasing. Just like the programme of Short Movie Sunday.
EYE, De Ontmoeting & Smarthouse
It is not without reason that the Eye Film Museum is called ‘the film recollection of the Netherlands’. This cinema and museum on the shore of the IJ river has more than 54,000 films from all kinds of genres in their archive: a fine sample of film history. Together with De Ontmoeting, a concept that links starting filmmakers to established parties from the industry, and award winning creative impact studio Smarthouse, they will be present at Short Movie Sunday to display a variety of short films which are the result of a collaboration between these three initiatives.
International Queer Migrant Film Festival
The IQMFF was founded in 2015 and is an interdisciplinary festival for queer & migrant-related films. Everything they do and offer contributes to a diverse and inclusive society, in which people of all genders, sexual preferences and nationalities enjoy equal human rights, freedom of movement and fair representation in the media.
LAB111 & Future Frame Series
Hidden inside a monumental old pathological anatomical laboratory in Amsterdam west, you can find LAB111. The unique programming of this eccentric cult cinema consists of special classics and fresh perspectives that appeal to the imagination. Documentaries and classics till niche movies. You name it. This edition, they partner up with their Celebrating Cinema podcast, taking this opportunity to celebrate emerging Dutch filmmakers. As part of the Celebrating Cinema podcast you can hear two of their chosen filmmakers Rafik & Bram Ruiter, in conversation as part of their Future Frames series leading up to this year’s Short Movie Sunday.
Nederlandse Filmacademie
Nederlandse Filmacademie is the only specialist studies in the Netherlands that focuses on the entire field of film. They train students to become specialists in the film industry. The Academy has selected graduation films from up and coming alumni. A unique view in their early work that hasn’t been featured often.
Shortcutz
You can describe Shortcutz as a festival, platform or a network, but in reality they’re all of the above and more. Through their weekly screenings, they give new Dutch film talent the opportunity to showcase their work and get to know their audience, as well as professionals from the industry. This Short Movie Sunday they’re back at Volkshotel to let a new generation of filmmakers share their stories.
